University of Manchester based organisation In Place of War, has secured over £250,000 in funding, from a range of funders including the Arts Council, PRS for Music Foundation, the Anna Lindh Foundation, and The Mark Leonard Trust.

The funding will see In Place of War lead a host of projects spanning multiple countries, including launching their GRRRL project in Manchester later this year, as the first UK destination in a global series to bring an inspiring collaboration of female artists from across the world to tell their collective stories of life, conflict, inequality, and change through music.

In Place of War will also use the funding to develop their refugee integration project, working across Lebanon, Sweden, Germany, Greece, and the UK to enhance intercultural dialogue and explore best practices among organisations that work around the issues faced by immigrant and refugee communities in these countries.

The funding comes as In Place of War also announces the appointment of award-winning Manchester entrepreneur, Professor Vikas Shah, to Chairman of the board.

Ruth Daniel, CEO of In Place of War, said “ We are really excited by the recent developments at In Place of War – both helping us increase capacity to deliver new and impactful work, and the opportunity to expand our projects to more places and in more communities across the world. This support from a range of funders also gives us the recognition that the work we are doing is important to helping change people’s lives in this very fragile and uncertain time.”

Professor Vikas Shah, Chairman of In Place of War, also commented “I am delighted to take on the position of the Chair of In Place of War. I have been involved with the organisation for two years and I am excited to support the growth of In Place of War, helping the organisation support artistic and creative responses to war across the world, giving artists a voice and building entrepreneurship programmes across the world’s most marginalised communities.”
