Inaugural ceremony celebrates local enterprising women

Twelve of the Liverpool City Regions best and brightest female-led businesses were presented with awards for excellence at Celebrating Enterprising Women event.

Inaugural ceremony celebrates local enterprising women

Organised by women’s business support provider The Women’s Organisation, the event honoured the local female entrepreneurs who are shaping the region’s business landscape across a range of industries.

Taking place in Constellations, over 70 guests joined the celebrations which were hosted by local personality and actress, Eithne Browne.

The award-winners are clients of The Women’s Organisation and were carefully selected for an award by the team of business advisers who have offered advice and support to these entrepreneurs along their business journeys.

Among those celebrated were Anna Slater who was awarded ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ having secured substantial financial investment to launch North West Linen Services and open her own factory facility in Knowsley at the tender age of 24. Securing pubs, restaurants and hotels across the region, Anna is the powerhouse behind this steadily growing business that is a major employer of more than a dozen local people.

Ngunan Adamu picked up the ‘Empowering Others Award’ having founded iWoman Academy, a women’s-only radio training academy where radio is used as a training and well-being tool. As a trained journalist and having worked at the BBC for over a decade, Ngunan utilises her passion and skills to better enable women to gain employment, return to education and/or set up their own businesses.

Enterprise Director at The Women’s Organisation, Jackie Williams, said: “This event was all about recognising and rewarding the successes of Liverpool City Region’s enterprising women. At some point in their journey, these award-winning women contacted us at The Women’s Organisation with a lightbulb business idea and have since demonstrated every ounce of determination, passion and commitment needed to launch their business and really succeed. From a whole range of industries including consultancy, recruitment, childcare, construction, third sector organisations and more, these independent businesses and the unstoppable women behind them have had an incredible impact on our local economy and we’re delighted to be able to shout about their brilliant work.”

Ngunan Adamu, Founder of iWoman Academy and winner of ‘Empowering Others Award’ said: “Sometimes you go through life just doing what's right and trying to solve every day problems, but you never think or do it to get noticed. The award was a beautiful surprise and for once in my life I was speechless. Thank you to The Women's Organisation for the unlimited support.”

The event was sponsored by local firm, Lewis Evans Chartered Accountants. Partner, Rosie Evans said: “We work with small businesses every day and it was important for us to support this event that celebrates their achievements, particularly those of local women who are still underrepresented in business. We were delighted to join The Women’s Organisation in celebrating some pioneering women who are great entrepreneurial role models in our region”.
