The impressive sum means Ollie Burrow’s JustGiving page was in the top 3% of fundraisers for September, and the donations are still flooding in.
Ollie, a personal trainer based in Kirkby Lonsdale and gym manager of the town’s RUFC, had initially set his original target at just over £500, but the team of 26 exceeded that amount even before the Born Survivor event on 24th September.
Ollie said: “Born Survivor was tough, but great fun. As a team, we all had a laugh together and encouraged each other through it. Although the course itself was challenging – with 30 obstacles across 10km – we had all trained for it together, which meant there was a fantastic team mentality and that definitely helped, especially in the tougher sections!
“About a week after the event, I received an email from JustGiving saying our team’s fundraising page was one of the most successful in September. Amazingly, out of 98,877 fundraisers, we were in the top 3%! We were already on such a high after the challenge and having pretty much quadrupled our initial target, so to receive an email like that was pretty incredible!”
Together with Ollie’s recent fundraising challenge, he also led a team in the Badass Mucker in May, raising £830 for Sport Relief. This time, his team of 26 – which was made up of members of his popular bootcamp classes or private personal training clients – decided collectively to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance. The charity’s helicopters fly 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with doctors and paramedics on board, providing fast treatment and delivering pre-hospital care to patients across the entire region.
Ollie said: “After initially setting our target at just over £500, raising over £2,000 is something none of us imagined would happen! We’re still receiving donations, so we won’t know the exact figure for a little while. We picked the North West Air Ambulance as our chosen charity because we all felt that it is a vital service in the area that is in need of funding. Raising the amount we have so far is something that we are all completely over the moon about, and we would all like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has kindly donated and helped us raise four times the amount we were aiming for!”
