A group of good natured Sunderland customer service workers have come together to bring some festive cheer to those helped by a local charity this Christmas.
Staff at EDF Energy based at Doxford International Business Park have held a number of fund raising events in recent weeks in support of Wearside Women in Need, alongside a collection of selection boxes and toiletries that will be used in special Christmas hampers to be distributed among those families being helped by the charity.
EDF Energy staff are regular supporters of the Sunderland-based charity that provides refuge, advice and support to women and children suffering from domestic violence as well providing safe accommodation for homeless young women.
The special workplace collection was organised by EDF Energy team manager, Nicola Robinson, who said: “I’m really grateful for the support and generosity shown by my colleagues who have really got behind the appeal.
“The collection is our way of trying to bring smiles to many people who may be facing a tough time this Christmas by giving them simple, practical gifts.
“The charity does a fantastic job all year round and we just wanted to do something to make sure that the families it supports are made to feel like any others when opening their presents on Christmas morning.”
The Wearside Women in Need charity provides a range of services to families suffering from domestic violence living in Sunderland. These include a 24-hour helpline, advice support and accommodation, supported accommodation for women suffering from mental health issues, activities and support for excluded young people aged 13-19.
" Im really grateful for the support and generosity shown by my colleagues who have really got behind the appeal."
