EDF Energy Employees Raise Over £1,200 For Breast Cancer in Wear It Pink Day

Customer services employees at EDF Energy, based in Doxford Business Park, raised £1,253 following a ‘Wear It Pink’ fundraising day.

Employees could wear something pink to work for the day, which could be anything from a pink shirt to pink nail varnish or even pink shoes. In exchange, they were asked to make a donation to Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now.

Kevin Gatens, Head of Customer Service in the North East, said: “Wear It Pink Day was a great success and the site was particularly colourful that day. Huge thanks to everyone who got involved and raised a fantastic £1,253. Well done!”

Various activities on the day were also organised to help raise as much money as possible including a raffle, a tombola and a sweet cart that sold a wide range of pick and mix. Every penny raised was donated to Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, as part of its current affiliation with EDF Energy.

The company-wide partnership with Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now began in October 2016, and EDF Energy has pledged to raise a total of £300,000 from employee fundraising over the course of the three-year partnership. The company has exceeded this target with the current total standing at £424, 446. £26,877 of this has been raised specifically by employees at EDF’s Doxford base.

Lizzie Israeli, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, added: “By 2050, we want to see those who develop breast cancer not only survive but live and live well. Team fundraising days such as EDF Energy’s team at Doxford are a huge help in getting closer to our goal, with the money raised used to fund vital research to stop people dying from breast cancer. Thank you so much - what a wonderful team effort!”
